Yesterday I warned about Republican attempts to deport people for a single DUI office. I specifically worried it would be like the Laken Riley Act in January, when 48 Democrats in the House voted for a terrible bill, leading it to gain political momentum and pass the Senate, becoming a terrible law.
Well, I needn’t have worried. Only 37 Democrats voted yes this time! (15 Democrats did not vote, because not showing up is the better part of valor.)
The real action will be whether Senate Dems block the bill, which they can via the filibuster, if they mostly hang together.
Here’s the House vote count.
